Let sleeping dogs lie
I don’t follow these things so I was surprised to see that there was some big concert in the UK yesterday for the ex-Princess Diana. Would people not just let the woman rest in peace? More to the point would they leave the rest of us in peace?
We channel surfed over the concert a few times last night but you could some interviews with commoners sharing their special memories of the woman. Can I share mine with you?
I was working in Nenagh at the time. I remember the week after her funeral there was about a dozen of us who all worked in P&G around at a friends house. Most were Irish but there was one English guy. We got to telling Diana is dead jokes, none of which I can remember now. At one point I looked over at our English colleague and he had a look of absolute horror on his face. It rapidly sank in with him that we had a bit more perspective about the woman, and had not lost the run of our senses when if came to thinking about her death.
I am always gladdened by the number of English people I meet that also feel she was a spoiled, over rated, attention seeking, narcissistic, adulterous, manipulative, clothes horse. Yeah she did some good charity work, but then what else was she going to do? It’s not like she had a day job to keep herself busy.
