A couple of weeks ago I helped ferry a boat back from Kinsale to Dublin. It was a gorgeous sunny weekend, so it was a pity that what wind we had was either too light, or dead ahead of us all the time, and we ended up motoring all the way.
The highlight of the trip had to be when we were joined by a pod of about 14 dolphins somewhere off the Wexford coast.
Dolphins love playing in the bow waves of boats. These guys stuck with us for about twenty minutes. Then they swam off. But 5 minutes later they were back for another quick session.
They were amazingly fast in the water. Just a flick of their tail and they would jet off in another direction, skip ahead of the boat, or dip under the hull. You could also see that they were turning on their sides to look up at us on the deck.
I was the one taking all the photos as I was the only person that had a half decent camera, the one on my phone. I thought I would try getting a video as well. So here it is:
That is my first ever video on YouTube. It needs work. I don’t have any video editing software I am afraid. The music is what was playing on the boat at the time. I am not sure whether the Dolphins were attracted to it.
Now for my second YouTube video I think the tradition is that I put something up of me happy slapping. Maybe I can try and happy slap a dolphin? Watch this space.
You can see more of the shots I took up on Flickr.
